Drumline, Colorguard Win at State

San Benito High School’s drumline and varsity colorguard wrapped up their competition seasons with big wins over the weekend.

The drumline placed first in its category at the Northern California Band Association Championships on Saturday. The drumline’s show, titled “Phobias,” featured original music by Brian Plowman, the percussion director.

Winterguard – the varsity colorguard at SBHS – competed in the California Colorguard Circuit Sunday, where the group took the championship. The colorguard show was called “Beyond the Rainbow,” and depicted the story of The Wizard of Oz in a modern setting.

The junior varsity color guard also participated, placing 10th.

“I feel ecstatic because I knew that the kids worked incredibly hard for this,” Said Jim Zuniga, who heads the music department at the high school.
