Christina Maxine Cunningham
Christina Maxine Cunningham was born April 19, 2007, at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy to parents Maxine and Chris Cunningham of Hollister. She weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces.
Ashley Marie Hafely
Ashley Marie Hafely was born May 1, 2007, at Santa Teresa Kaiser to parents George and Kathleen Hafely of Gilroy. She weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces.
Rodney James Nasaire Jr.
Rodney James Nasaire Jr. was born May 20, 2007, at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister to parents Genoveva and Rodner Nasaire of Los Banos. He weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces.
WEDDING
Kay/Arias
Julianna Kay and Jacinto Arias were married Feb. 10, 2007, at the Hollister Methodist Church. Friends and family joined the couple at a reception at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club following the ceremony.
Julianna is the daughter of Robert and Judith Kay of Gilroy. Jacinto is the son of Jose and Yolanda Arias of Las Vegas, Nevada. Julianna is a 1996 graduate of Gilroy High School and a 2000 graduate of Sonoma State University. She is employed as a 3rd grade teacher at El Roble School in Gilroy. Jacinto is a graduate of San Francisco State University and is employed as a 4th grade teacher at El Roble School.
The couple honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii, and now make their home in Gilroy.
Warnock/Realini
Robin Warnock and Ryan Realini were married Dec. 9, 2006 at Peninsula Bible Church in Cupertino. A reception was held at Silver Creek Country Club.
Robin is the daughter of Bob and Holly Warnock of Morgan Hill. She is a 2001 graduate of Live Oak High School and a 2006 graduate of San Jose State University. She is currently earning her master’s degree in clinical psychology at Bethany University.
Ryan is the son of Rob and Lauri Realini of Cupertino. He is a 1998 graduate of Monte Vista High School and 2003 graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a teacher at Valley Christian Junior High School and the assistant varsity baseball coach.
The couple met when Robin was Ryan’s substitute teacher. They currently reside in Morgan Hill.
HONORS
Pierre Gerard
The United States Acheivement Academy announces that Pierre Gerard of Morgan Hill has been named a U.S. National Award Winner in Leadership. This award is a prestigious honor very few students attain. The academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.
Pierre, who attends Carden Academy, was nominated by Karen Crane, a music teacher at the school. Pierre will appear in the U.S. Achievement Academy’s Official Yearbook and will enter Harker School in San Jose in the fall as a freshman.
Pierre is the son of David Gerard of Morgan Hill.
Tyler Afflixio
The University of Portland (Oregon) announces that Tyler Afflixio of Morgan Hill is listed on the 2007 spring semester dean’s list. Afflixio is a senior and majoring in organizational communication. Students need at least a 3.5 grade point average to make the dean’s list.
Rebecca Blessing
Rebecca Blessing of Morgan Hill was among more than 1,500 St. Olaf College students recognized for academic achievement at the college’s annual Honors Day convocation in May. Honors Day recognizes St. Olaf students who have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
Blessing, a senior at St. Olaf in Minnesota, is majoring in interdisciplinary fine arts and mathematics.
Liset Vargas
The University of California, Santa Cruz, is pleased to award scholarships to 11 dedicated community college transfer students who will enroll at UCSC this fall as recipients of Karl S. Pister Leadership Opportunity Awards.
This year’s recipients includes aspiring pharmacist Liset Vargas, of Hollister.
Liset has worked two jobs to put herself through school. She plans to major in biology at UCSC and looks forward to serving the Spanish-speaking community. The daughter of Mexican immigrants who didn’t get beyond junior high school, Liset has always been encouraged by her parents to attend college. At Gavilan College, Vargas has been a tutor and mentor to her fellow students, and she helped develop a college club for students interested in careers in medicine.
Norman Funez
Army Pvt. Norman R. Funez has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, among others.
He is the son of Iris Funez of Gilroy and is a 2001 graduate of Gilroy High School.
Bryan Jones
Bryan Jones graduated May 13 from University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash.
Jones, a graduate of Live Oak High School in 2003, majored in Business and minored in Economics and is the son of Kevin and Lisa Jones of Morgan Hill.
While at Puget Sound, Jones member of the UPS football team.
University of Puget Sound is a 2,600-student independent residential liberal arts college.
