Hollister – The San Benito County Water District’s board of directors voted unanimously Wednesday to adopt a regional plan that partners San Benito with the Santa Clara Water District and the Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency.

According to San Benito district manager John Gregg, teaming with other agencies will help the county address its water-related challenges, and is actually necessary if San Benito hopes to snag state water funding. In fact, California has already given the agencies $25 million in state money to pay the early stages of the plan’s implementation, including $4.4 million for Soap Lake floodplain preservation.

Santa Clara’s directors approved the plan May 22, while Pajaro Valley’s board will vote June 6.
