Our first Red Phone caller of the week, a local man, asked the Crimson Crusader to provide him with some information about parking on public streets. Our caller specifically wanted to know if residents could use cones to block off and save parking spots in front of their homes.

The Crimson Crusader called Hollister Police Officer Rosie Betanio to find the answer. Betanio said residents do not have the authority to block off any portion of the street. She said such incidents can be reported to police by calling the department’s non-emergency line at 636-4330.

San Benito Blues

Our next Red Phone caller, an inspired blues singer, didn’t ask our hero any questions. Instead, he blew the harp and belted out a soulful tune about the ups and downs of life in Hollister.

Well, thank you, dearest caller. Your tune was much appreciated; however, the Crimson Crusader’s answering machine has a limited amount of space. Next time, try to keep it under 15 minutes.

Landscape Discrepancy

Our next Red Phone caller asked the Crimson Crusader why the west side of Beverly Drive in Hollister is beautifully landscaped and maintained while the east side is weed-ridden and overgrown.

The Crimson Crusader jumped on the Crimson Segway for a scenic trip down Beverly Drive. After witnessing the unkempt east side sound wall, our hero got on the phone with Hollister Parks Supervisor Marcelo Orta to find out if anything could be done.

Orta said his crews had been working in that area, but were recently pulled off to tackle the weed-choked sound wall along Fairview Road. Plants in that area were blocking passage along the sidewalk and needed immediate attention. However, there is no reason for panic, gentle caller. Orta said his crews will finish up Fairview, then move on to Sunnyslope Road and Beverly Drive.
