Cheaters, stealers and cd makers
Dear Lindsay,
This guy I kind of know from school made me this cd out of the
blue. It has all kinds of cool songs on it so I gave him a thank
you card. Now he wants to know if I want to go to lunch with him
and I think he might like me, but I just want to be friends with
him. How can I let him know I am not interested in dating him
without hurting his feelings?

Dear Lindsay,

-From Just Wants to be Friends
Dear Just Wants to be Friends,
You need to let him know before it goes too far. You never want to lead a guy on. Go out to lunch with him, and just start a conversation. Make sure that it is subtle and not flirty. If the topic comes up, let him know that you think he is a great guy, and that you loved the CD but friends is what you need to be. You don’t want to compromise a friendship with a relationship, especially if one likes the other more.
Dear Lindsay,
I am taking this summer school class on geometry and one of my friend’s is really struggling in class. He asked if he could copy my homework and I told him no. He said if I don’t help him, he might flunk the class. How can I help him without cheating?
– From Summer Student
Dear Summer Student,
Offer to tutor them. If you break it down simply and more effectively, then I am certain that he will start to get the hang of things. No matter how much they copy, they won’t learn anything unless there is studying involved. Soon all the copying will catch up to them on test days. See what he thinks, and if not, then it’s his choice. But don’t let your guard down if it comes to it.
Dear Lindsay,
I really want to go to the beach with my friends for my birthday, but my parents already made plans for that day without asking what I wanted to do. How can I get them to listen to what I want to do and not just plan things for me without asking?
– From Beach Bum
Dear Beach Bum,
Let your parents know that it was not fair at all to plan something without your consent. Tell them your ideas with your friends and see if you can change it to the day after, or vice versa. With a little compromise, you’ll be able to soak up the sun with your friends, and also have some family fun.
Dear Lindsay,
I work at a sandwich shop and one of my co-workers is always giving out free food to her friends when the manager isn’t around. She says it’s no big deal because we charge so much for the food. I don’t think it’s right, but I am not sure what I should do. What do you think?
– From Serving Up Sandwiches
Dear Serving Up Sandwiches,
Let them know that no matter how much the food costs, they are losing money for the company and for themselves. If it comes down to it, tell them that you will report it. If they don’t listen, they obviously do not want the job.
