South County celebrates the Fourth
I hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July. King City had lots of celebrations going on throughout the day.
The day kicked off with the annual parade down Broadway. Some of those participating in the parade included members of the King City Little League All-Star teams. Andy and Tamra Barrington hosted a barbecue at their place on the Fourth. It was a day of swimming, eating, card playing and fireworks later that night. Those celebrating with the Barringtons included: the Brewen family, the Hurley family, Casey and Colleen Sabin, Blake Willougby and Jessika Silva, the Garza family and the Sans family. We were able to watch the fireworks from both King City and Greenfield from where their house sits. Birthday wishes go out to Casey Sabin who celebrated his birthday on June 30. J.W. and Candace Brewen hosted a barbecue in Casey’s honor at their home that evening. Some of those stopping by to wish Casey well included: the Hurley family, the Sabin family, the Sans family, Donna and Laurence Hansen and the Brewen family.
Many members of the Bitterwater 4-H Club headed down to Paso Robles last week to spend the day at the new water park, The Ravine. They all had a great day, especially since it was so hot. They did say the park was not as big as Raging Waters in San Jose, but, it was still a lot of fun and a little closer to home.
The King City Riding Club hosted its July gymkhana last Sunday at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds. Some of those participating included: Chase and Clay Barbree, Brooke and Mason Rianda, Dakota Stoughton, Taylor and Tatum Hurley, Darcey Harless, Ralphie Rianda, Caleb and Lauren Johnson, Adam Pentoja, Hannah Johnson, Chesney Brouhard and Brody and Sierra Jo Sans. If anyone would like to help the club out with a saddle donation, contact anyone involved with the club and they can put you in touch with the right person.
The District 9 Little League All-Star tournament is in full swing in Salinas right now. The 9-10-year-old division is complete and both King City teams did extremely well. The 9-and-under team will be playing in the championship game this week and the 11-year-old team is still playing. The 12-year-old team just won their first game last weekend and will continue playing this week. Congratulations to all the players and coaches, and best of luck to all those still playing.
Seems King City High School is under fire these days for accreditation issues, and rightfully so. Someone, somewhere dropped the ball on this whole issue and somebody needs to be held accountable. Our students are the ones suffering from this whole mess. We, as a community, and parents, vote in our board and place complete trust in them that things are going well and being done properly. This whole situation is a complete breakdown of trust. As a parent of an incoming freshman, I hope they get this whole situation taken care of quickly and properly. I, along with many, many other parents hate the thought of having to take our children elsewhere, but, the possibility is definately there.
Have a great week, and, if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
