Salinas – The San Benito Lady ‘Balers won in straight games Thursday at North Salinas and remain perfect in the Tri-County Athletic League.

After a win over Gilroy earlier this week, San Benito defeated North Salinas 25-17, 25-23, 25-7.

“We just stayed steady and brought it to them,” Coach Dean Askanas said. “But they were a much improved team. I was impressed with North Salinas. They’re gonna get someone by surprise.”

Emily Kortsen led the Lady ‘Balers with 17 kills on the night.

“We’re trying to make some adjustments on defense,” the coach added. “We just have to take it one match at a time.”

The Lady ‘Balers (2-0 TCAL, 10-6 overall) will play in the Harbor Invitational this weekend, a tournament Askanas would like to see his San Benito squad win.

“We really have to play one match at a time. We’re a good team,” he said. “We just need to focus and not get too far ahead of ourselves. We can’t take anyone for granted.”

Anzar Volleyball

The Anzar Hawks defeated host Carmel on Thursday in five games. Details will be reported in Saturday’s edition of the Hollister Free Lance.
