Pacifica Tiger Sharks on Saturday, picking up wins at every
level.

Hollister – The Hollister Vikings Pop Warner football teams swept the Pacifica Tiger Sharks on Saturday, picking up wins at every level.

What may have been the most exciting match came from the Viking midgets, who came from behind to defeat Pacifica 32-13 for their first win of the year.

Tiny Mites

Hollister Vikings Tiny Mites v.

Pacifica Tiger Sharks

Rain or shine, the tiny mites played. It was a wet football game. The Hollister Vikings came out tough and were able to hold onto the wet ball. Antonio Caro, Brody Cascio and Kane Dealba had great runs in the first half. Caro ended up in the end zone after a 2-yard run to give the Vikings a touchdown. The defense also held tough, with great defensive plays by Dealba, Matthew Hernandez and Caro.

Mitey Mites

Pacifica Tiger Sharks 6

The Hollister Viking mitey mites improved their record to 3-0-1 with a win over the Tiger Sharks of Pacifica. The Vikings showed up in the rain to dominate the game in both the first and second halves. Jonathon Mendoza recovered a fumble in the first quarter to stop the first Pacifica drive. Five minutes and seven seconds into the game, Danny Perez ran 60 yards into the end zone for the first touchdown of the game. Tristan Wahl sacked the Tiger Sharks quarterback in the second quarter for a 21-yard loss. The Vikings offense took over, and Nicholas Trimble ran for a first down on a quarterback keeper. Danny Perez then ran 41 yards into the end zone for the Vikings second touchdown. The Vikings defense shut the Tiger Sharks offense down. Dominic Barrios had several good tackles, and Joshua Martin recovered a fumble. Justin Sanders ran 17 yards into the end zone for the Vikings, scoring the second touchdown of the quarter and third touchdown of the game.

The second half began with an 18-0 Viking lead. The Vikings came out fighting once again. Nathan Fhurong was an animal on defense with several good tackles. Dominic Barrios and Andre Soto ran the ball for over 30 yards to the Tiger Sharks 5-yard line. The Vikings did not capitalize. However, Nicholas Trimble and Aaron Tobia recovered fumbles deep in Tiger Sharks territory, and Nicholas Trimble ran eight yards into the end zone, increasing the score to 24-0. The Tiger Sharks answered with a touchdown of their own. However, the Vikings were not ready to give in. Daniel Hopkins completed a 60-yard touchdown pass to Justin Sanders to put the Vikings up 30-6. Tristan Wahl sacked the Tiger Sharks quarterback deep in the backfield to end the game.

Junior Pee Wees

Pacifica Tiger Sharks 0

The Hollister Vikings Junior pee wee football team improved their record to 4-0 when they defeated the Pacifica Tiger Sharks 26-0. The Vikings came out fighting, with the rain subsiding, and dominated the game. Austin Cascio recovered a fumble in the first quarter to stop the Tiger Sharks first drive of the game. Hollister could not capitalize and fumbled the ball. However, Cascio made a big tackle to stop the Tiger Sharks second drive of the game. Tyler Fhurong threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Cody Freitas, putting the first points of the game on the board for Hollister.

The Hollister Vikings scored quickly in the second quarter with a pitch to Christopher “Cookie” Cook, who ran 55 yards for a Viking touchdown. Kyle George ran the ball for 22 yards deep into the Tiger Sharks territory. Tyler Fhurong ran 17 yards on a reverse, scoring a touchdown. Christopher Cook and Ezzie Lovator sacked the Tiger Sharks’ quarterback, stopping them in their tracks once again. Hollister scored two more times in the second quarter, going into halftime leading the Tiger Sharks 26-0. In the second half, the Vikings defense shut out the Tiger Sharks. Andrew Huaracha sacked the quarter back, preventing the Tiger Sharks from putting points on the board. The game ended with the Vikings beating the Tiger Sharks 26-0.

Pee Wees

Hollister Vikings 28,

Pacifica Tiger Sharks 0

The Hollister Vikings pee wee football team remained undefeated when they beat the Pacifica Tiger Sharks 28-0. The defense stepped onto the field and stopped the Tiger Sharks in their tracks. Damien Botelho sacked the Tiger Sharks quarterback on their first drive. The Vikings took over and Cody Cameron ran 29 yards, zig-zagging in and out of defensive players and into the end zone for the Vikings first touchdown. Angel Pasillas kicked the ball through the uprights to give the Vikings an 8-0 lead. Louie Aceves and Junior Munuia stepped up on defense, pushing the Tiger Sharks back behind the line of scrimmage.

The Vikings began the second quarter with Cody Cameron running 34 yards to the Hollister end zone. The Vikings recovered the onside kick. Munoz ran 5 yards for the end zone, giving the Vikings a 20-0 lead. Once again, Angel Pasillas kicked the ball through the uprights, increasing the Vikings lead to 22-0. In the third quarter, Junior Munguia blocked the Tiger Sharks’ punt in the end zone and recovered the ball for the Vikings fourth touchdown. Marcus Darnell and Edward Macias had several long runs. Damien Botelho recovered a fumble, and Darius Medina and Edward Macias intercepted the ball. The final score was 28-0 in favor of the Vikings.

Junior Midgets

Pacifica Tiger Sharks 13

Coming into this past weekend, the Hollister Viking junior midgets were without a win. The Vikings were hungry, and proved that they came out to play Viking football. The first quarter was a defensive quarter with Zack Hicks tackling the ball carrier in the backfield, and Ray Parra defending the pass, forcing an early Tiger Shark punt. The first quarter was scoreless. The second quarter was also a defensive battle. Garrett Avina and Gio Caro had some tackles in the backfield to stop the Tiger Sharks for the moment. However, the Tiger Sharks were able to complete two passes and a 3-yard run for a touchdown. At the end of the first half, the score was 6-0 in favor of the Tiger Sharks.

Hollister never gave up and came out fighting. Ray Parra had a 50-yard run to the end zone for the Vikings first touchdown of the game. Edwin Campbell and Austin Blake were stellar on defense, holding the Tiger Sharks to one touchdown in the third quarter. Coming into the fourth quarter, after a 60-yard kickoff return by Nate Garza, the Vikings were still trailing by six. Austin Wahl lead his team to a touchdown by passing to Austin Blake for a first down, then handing the ball off to Ray Parra for yet another first down. Ray Parra, on fourth-and-1, ran the ball into the end zone. Ponte put the ball through the uprights for two more points. The Vikings were not finished. The defense continued to play strong, with Hartshorn breaking up pass plays to cause a turnover on downs. Ray Parra ran 45 yards to the end zone for another Hollister touchdown. The Tiger Sharks did not have the ball for very long. The Vikings retained possession of the ball, and Zack Hicks ran 40 yards to the end zone for another Viking touchdown. The Tiger Sharks were in shock, and were not able to pull anything else together. The Vikings came from behind to win their first game 32-13.

Midgets

Pacifica Tiger Sharks 6

The Hollister Viking midgets proved that they are winners. The Vikings came out in the first quarter and ran over the Pacifica Tiger Sharks by scoring 18 unanswered points. Angulo had a 27-yard kickoff return to start the Vikings off in great field position on the Tiger Sharks’ 47-yard line. Brandon Villar on a quarterback keeper ran the ball 41 yards into the end zone for the Vikings first touchdown. The defense was on fire, with big hits in the backfield by Cervantes and Carvalho throughout the game. Brandon Villar passed the ball to Ryan Disalvo for 28 yards, which set up Angulo for a 5-yard run into the end zone. The Tiger Sharks were trying to move the ball, but Cervantes stepped it up on defense by intercepting the ball, and running 15 yards for the end zone. In the second quarter, Mank had a 21-yard run to the end zone to give Hollister a commanding lead of 24-0 before halftime. Raymond Rondez, Jacob Martin and Luis Orosco had several good runs and first downs, which kept Hollister in control of the game.

The Pacifica Tiger Sharks had a tough time holding onto the football. In the second half, Hollister recovered two fumbles, preventing the Tiger Sharks from scoring in the third quarter. However, in the fourth quarter, the Tiger Sharks were able to put a drive together and scored a touchdown, but still did not have a chance against these tough Vikings. The Vikings answered with a touchdown of their own, after Isaiah Quintanna ran the ball for an 82-yard kickoff return to increase the Hollister lead. Ryan Disalvo kicked the ball, held by Jacob Martin, through the uprights to seal the fate of the Tiger Sharks, 32-6. The Vikings record is now 2-1-1.
