Who runs the site: The site is run by Bravo, the television network that brought us “Top Chef” and “Project Runway.”

Who runs the site: The site is run by Bravo, the television network that brought us “Top Chef” and “Project Runway.” Bravo is a subsidiary of NBC Universal. The site was started as part of a year-long online competition.

Pros: The site is like fantasy baseball, but for TV junkies. TV fans get $300 million – fake money, of course – to start their own network with shows from the big five stations – NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and CW. They can pick their shows from established series such as “Law and Order” or “Grey’s Anatomy” or take chances on the new pilots airing this season. The goal, however, is to be the network executive who makes the most money. In this competition, as in real life, the dollars are tied to ratings.

Shows will earn points based on increases in Nielson ratings, where they land for their time slot each week, and if they land in the top five shows of the week. Other points will be given for shows that make the cover of magazines or sweep awards ceremonies.

The competition runs through June 2008 when a lucky winner will get $100,000. Monthly prizes will also be given out.

Cons: Since the competition has been under way for two weeks, those entering now start with a slight disadvantage with those who have already earned points.

Also, the site runs a little slowly and can be frustrating, especially when trying to select television series for the networks. In addition, at least early on, there were some kinks with the software. At least one person who signed up for a network got a little more than $300 million to spend on shows – they spent $432 million because a software glitch didn’t delete money from the account when a few shows were purchased.

In addition, once you sign up for the network, there’s really no point to visiting the site more than once a week since points and rank are only updated Sundays after midnight.
