Whew! We survived fair time
It was a busy week in South County last week; I’m sure glad it’s
over! Another San Benito County Fair has come and gone and it was
another big success. Now that it’s over, the holiday season is
right around the corner.

It was a busy week in South County last week; I’m sure glad it’s over! Another San Benito County Fair has come and gone and it was another big success. Now that it’s over, the holiday season is right around the corner.
One of the highlights of the fair was the Junior Livestock Auction. Seems the prices were up all across the board for all the animals that went through the ring. Thank you to all the buyers for making sure the kids were taken care of. I haven’t seen prices that high at this fair for quite some time. All of the kids left the ring with a smile on their face.
Congratulations to Billy and Dana Aviles on producing such a successful Professional Bull Riders event last Thursday night. It was a packed house and was very entertaining. The bulls were outstanding and featured bulls from locals Earl Escobar, Alex Naccarato and Mike Baumgartner. I hope itbecomes an annual event as it was great watching. The intermission entertainment was just as exciting as it featured the Metal Mulisha Dirt Bike team. The team performed some extreme dirt bike stunts that wowed the crowd. Hopefully they will be back next year as well. It is definitely an event you won’t want to miss. Thanks, Billy and Dana, for such a great addition to the fair.
Birthday wishes go out to Stacey Schmidt, who celebrated her 30th birthday last Friday. Her husband Alex surprised her with a birthday dinner at Ridgemark. Several of Stacey’s family and friends were on hand to wish Happy Birthday. Some of those enjoying the evening included: Davey Williams, Dave and Janet Slibsager, Ernie and Rose Prewitt, Margaret Ostarello, Lacey Taliaferro, Doad and Lonnie Hext, Stan and Jeanette Sharp, Stacey’s sister Carrie and her husband Emilio and Todd and I. Birthday wishes also go out to Kasey Hurley, who celebrated last week as well.
The family of Alma Carlsen wants to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness during Alma’s illness and would like to let everyone know that any memorials for Alma may be given to the Bitterwater Tully School PTF. Jeff and Jean Schmidt returned home recently from a three-week-long trip overseas. They left Sept. 5 and flew to Zurich. From there they took a train to Strasbourg, France for two nights. While there, they visited Herbistzheim, a small town in Alsace, Franc,e where Jean’s grandmother was born. It was such a nice town, they wondered why the family left. Sept. 8, they boarded the River Queen in Basel, Switzerland for a cruise on the Rhine and Mosselle Rivers. They saw castles, towns, vineyards and countryside. Unlike Bitterwater, everything was very green and beautiful this time of year. They headed to Amersterdam and met up with Vern Scattini’s son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Robin Scattini. Todd and Robin live in Brussels, Belgium as Todd is serving there in the U.S. Army. They enjoyed dinner on the River Queen that evening. They had a great visit with them, and it was a great way to end their trip. They headed back home for the states the following day. Sounds like a great trip, Sierra wants to join them the next time they go!
