Dear Lindsay,

I really want a Coach purse I saw at Macy’s, but my parents don’t think I should buy it even with my own money because they think it cost too much. What should I do?

-Accessory Queen

Dear Accessory Queen,

I can see where your parents are coming from. Purses go out of style fast and your tastes can change as well. But I also understand that sometimes a girl just needs a new purse. If you really want to spend your money on the purse, then get it. It should be your decision, even if your parents don’t want you to. Let them know that if you do end up regretting it, then they can say they told you so.

Dear Lindsay,

Since the new fall TV season started, I want to watch “The Office” Thursdays at 9 p.m., but my sister wants to watch “Grey’s Anatomy” at the same time. We only have one TV so what can we do?

-TV Junkie

Dear TV Junkie,

Call me old fashioned, but when I’m stuck in this type of situation I record shows. If you don’t have a way to record it, then you and your sister should plan to switch off. One week you will watch your show, then the next she will watch hers. they always show what happened last week at the beginning of each show as well, so you won’t feel totally lost the next time you watch it.

Dear Lindsay,

I am the mom of two middle school boys who love to play videogames. How can I tell what games are appropriate for their age?

-Rated Parent

Dear Rated Parent,

As boys get older their tastes change. I know you’re worried about the amount of violence so keep in mind the following; if they are swearing, running around pretending to shoot people or showing out-of-the-normal behavior then you have a problem. I know that Halo 3 just arrived and personally, it’s pretty violent. All games are rated. “E” means for everyone, and all others usually have an age setting. Just watch what they play and make your own judgments. Talk to your boys to let them know that some video games are not what you would like them to play and tell them why. They’ll understand and let you know what they like. You’ll find you can reach an agreement as long as you all communicate.

Dear Lindsay,

I have to do community service for government class. Do you have any ideas of where I can find a cool, fun place to volunteer?

-Needs Fun Credits

Dear Needs Fun Credits,

Almost anywhere you can go will get you community service. I know that going to the board meetings counts but that isn’t always the best of fun. Volunteer at the hospital or the resting home. Go around town and see if any businesses need help. It might surprise you what you find, and it could be really fun in the process.
