Well, another successful Salinas Valley Fair has come and gone,
and with it came warm weather and believe it or not, wet weather
too. Despite the rain on Sunday, the fair was another huge
success.

Bitterwater 4-H members had a great fair. Everyone’s pigs made weight so they all went through the sale ring, thankfully! Katie Donham showed her breeding project heifer and she won the reserve grand champion title for grade heifers. Congratulations Katie!
Several of our rabbit project members showed their rabbits at the fair and each of them came home with ribbons as well.
Each of the woodworking members displayed their projects and they each came home with first or second place ribbons and our 4-H feature booth won a second place ribbon.
All in all, our members did great and they all had a good time. Each of the parents survived as well but are all glad it’s over for another year.
Congratulations goes out to local amateur photographers Cynnie O’Connor and Stacey Schmidt who both did well in the open photography classes. Both of them won several ribbons for their wonderful pictures. Cynnie also won second in the Sweepstakes class as well.
The Joe Diffie concert on Friday evening had a great turnout and was a good show. Saturday evening was the Championship Bull Riding in which Buddy and Brody both entered and rode miniature bulls in. Buddy had a great ride going until he got hung up for a while which scared me to death. Fortunately he was fine, but unfortunately that still hasn’t cured him from wanting to enter again! Brody was a little spooked after watching Buddy get hung up so his ride didn’t last quite so long this time! Cole McFarland and Mason Rianda were both entered in the mutton busting as well.
Unbelievably, the rain came in early Sunday morning and it wasn’t just a little rain either. It was a huge downpour. King City got .98 inches of rain on Sunday, causing the fair to close down for the first time in the history of the fair. The ranch rodeo had to be canceled for the day as well. It has been tentatively rescheduled for Sunday, June 11.
Cynnie O’Connor reported that they received 1.50 inches of rain at their place, while Tim Williams reported an inch at Bitterwater School. Several folks had to cancel their shipping day on Monday due to the rain. Who would have ever thought that! Maybe the Farmer’s Almanac is right after all, they did predict rain until June 11th this year.
Besides fair news, a huge congratulations goes out to the King City High School Mustangs baseball team. The boys won their first round CCS playoff game last Thursday in Alameda by a score of 4-2. They will play in the semifinal round this week against Palma High School.
