Can you believe this heat?  It’s been crazy out here in Bitterwater lately.  Last Saturday it was 113 degrees at our place at 4 in the afternoon, then, on Sunday afternoon, it cooled down 10 degrees to 103, but, it poured down rain at the same time!

Hopefully this heat wave will break this week, but, in the meantime, if you have any great ways to cool down, let me know!

Birthday wishes go out to Bob Schmidt who celebrated his 93rd birthday on Sunday.  His son Ted hosted a small birthday gathering for him at his home.  Attending from South County were Jeff and Jean Schmidt and Donna and Laurence Hansen.

The kids and I headed up to Salinas last Saturday to try to beat the heat at the rodeo.  It was pretty hot up there too, but cool to us at 85 degrees!  Some others from South County taking in the action included Vickie, Colleen and Casey Sabin, and J.W. Brewen.

Gene, Shana, Blane and Blair Strohn recently returned home from the Wrangler Junior High National Finals Rodeo in New Mexico where Blane competed in the boys goat tying.  Blane got two of his goats tied while there.  Besides rodeoing, they also met a lot of nice people and did a lot of swimming.  Shana said the weather was nice, about 95 degrees the whole time they were there.  Now that they’re back in this heat wave, they probably wish they were still there!

Bill and Robin Rist hosted a sending off party for their son Matthew last Sunday at their home.  Matthew has joined the Reserves and will be off for basic training soon.  Bill said about 35 friends and family members were on hand to wish Matthew well.  Besides it being super hot, it was a great party.

Until next week, try to stay cool, and, if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
