Ready for fall in South County

We had another week of warm weather in South County.  Maybe now that the time has changed, the weather will change too.  I’m ready for some cool, fall weather.

Bitterwater Tully School students kept themselves very busy last week.  They went on a field trip to the Swank Farms Corn Maze last Monday, which they all enjoyed.  The Lady Badgers Volleyball team played 3 games during the week, then, played in the Soledad Middle School Tournament on Saturday.  The girls ended their season by winning two games last week against Soledad and Greenfield, a loss to San Lorenzo, but ended on a positive note in Soledad by winning second place in the tournament out of 8 teams.  For the second year in a row, our Lady Badgers were playing in the Championship game.  The girls played their hearts out all day long and held their own against all the bigger schools.  The final game was a real thriller too.  They played against Gavilan Hills Middle School (1,200 students to our 28) whose team had 4 club volleyball players and a professional volleyball player as one of their parents.  Our girls kept up with them point for point but ended up losing 23-21.  It was a thriller but our girls made Bitterwater proud once again.  Congratulations to all Badgers on such a fine season, and, to Taylor Jo Hurley for being named MVP of the 7th grade team and to Katie Donham for being named MVP of the 8th grade team.  Now, its on to basketball!

Kasey Hurley and I hosted October’s hot lunch last Friday at the school.  Some of those stopping by to enjoy lunch with the students included Johnny Joe Maggini, Jim Smith, Vern and Joann Scattini, Laurence and Donna Hansen and Armond and Alberta Rist.  Later that evening, many of the same folks attended the Bitterwater Tully Halloween Party at Tully Hall.

Donna and Laurence Hansen went to Quincy a few weekends ago to watch their grandson Russell compete at the college rodeo there.  They spent the weekend with Jeff and Shari Popnoe in Truckee as there wasn’t a hotel room to be found in Quincy.  Jeff and Shari took in the rodeo action with them one day as well.

Alma Carlson called me with lots of news the other night.  Traci Eggleston hosted a going away party for her husband Mike last Saturday at their place.  Mike will be heading overseas for military duty next week.  Some of those there to wish Mike well were Jerry and Alma Carlson, Matt Palmer, Bill and Robin Rist, Alberta Rist and many members of Tracie’s family.

Birthday wishes go out to Alma Carlson and to her sister Cecilia.  Alma celebrated on the 30th while Cecilia celebrated on the 31st.  They celebrated their birthdays in Yosemite with Jerry and Cecelia’s son Jason.

Alma and Jerry had a nice visit last Sunday with their youngest great-granddaughter, Samantha J-leene.  She is only a month old and barely weighs 6 lbs.  Alma says she’s adorable.

Mark your calendars next week for Wednesday, November 8th as Corey Ross from Liberty Hill, Texas will be the featured guest at Cowboy Church.  Corey, a PRCA team roper is a Christian country recording artist and a cowboy preacher who does many church services at rodeos all across the country.  He will be at the King City Cowboy Church at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds on November 8th at 6:30 p.m.

If you’re tired of reading only about volleyball and rodeos, be sure to give me a call with your news to write about at [email protected], until then, have a great week!
