Our first Red Phone call of the week came from a frequent Red
Phone caller who said she was

disgusted

by the condition of the bathroom at the Hollister Municipal
Airport. The Crimson Crusader made a call to Airport Manger Bill
Gere to find out what could be done. Gere said he had recently
looked into the facility, which isn’t far from his office, and

The Crimson Crusader made a call to Airport Manger Bill Gere to find out what could be done. Gere said he had recently looked into the facility, which isn’t far from his office, and couldn’t find anything disgusting.

“The bathrooms here get cleaned three or four times a month,” he said. “I don’t know what else we can do.”

crusader in the flesh

Our next Red Phone caller asked if the Crimson Crusader would be participating in this year’s “Lights On” parade in downtown Hollister on Nov. 25. Unfortunately, the Crimson Crusader has plans that weekend, but perhaps arrangements can be made for 2007.

Part of North Street to Close for Repairs Soon

Our final Red Phone matter of the week came from the Hollister Public Works Department. The department sent out a detailed public notice regarding the upcoming closure of North Street in Hollister. North Street, between San Benito Street and Thompson Street, will be closed for construction starting at 2pm Nov. 16. Work on the street will include improvement to the railroad crossing in preparation for the North Street Extension Project.

The work, barring any unforeseen circumstances, is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 22.

Work has not yet begun on the North Street Extension Project, which will give people driving from west Hollister an alternative route to San Felipe Road and Highway 25. Currently traffic from west of downtown is all funneled down Fourth Street to San Benito Street and the highway. The 1,500-foot, two-lane extension will connect North Street to Buena Vista at the Locust Avenue intersection.
