Hollister – San Benito will begin its quest for a second straight Central Coast Section Large School football title when it hosts Piedmont Hills on Friday at 7pm at Andy Hardin Stadium.

The ‘Balers earned the top seed in the Large School Division to draw the matchup against the No. 8 Pirates, a representative from the Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division who posted a 5-5 record.

San Benito and Piedmont Hills have met three times in the postseason play, each time in the first round. The ‘Balers are 3-0 in those meetings, winning 42-12 in 2001, 48-19 in 1994 and 54-27 in 1992.

The Pirates have a lifetime CCS record of 4-12, while San Benito is looking to improve on a 23-10 mark.

The winner will face the winner of the game between No. 5 Alisal (7-3) and No. 4 Leland. The ‘Balers pounded Alisal three weeks ago 33-6 during Tri-County Athletic League play and also beat the Trojans 34-10 in the first round of last year’s CCS playoffs on their way to the title.

San Benito’s last postseason matchup against Leland was a 28-3 loss to the Chargers in the first round of the 1997 Division I playoffs.

The semifinals will be played either Nov. 25 or 26 at a time and location to be determined.
