Editor,

Ever feel like going to work and telling your boss, “I’m not going to work today because I don’t think it’ll turn out well, so I’m going to sit here and keep you from working?” If so, maybe you should run for Senate.

For the last two years, Senate Democrats have engaged in filibusters to prevent the Senate from voting on President Bush’s nominees. No, these aren’t the “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” filibusters.

Instead, Democrats have simply objected to calling votes on President Bush’s judicial nominees. These nominees have gone through committee hearings, deliberation, Senate debate and public debate.

A majority of Senators still support the president’s judicial nominees but are being prevented from doing their jobs by a minority of Senators who will not allow votes because they know that they will lose. If they continue to fail to do the jobs that they were sent there to do, namely voting, we will have to respond the same way that our bosses would if we were to tell them that we would not do our jobs.
