Hollister – After 10 years, the Spotlight on Hollister Trade Show & Job Fair is still going strong in helping local businesses and organizations recruit new employees and spread the word about what they do at the same time.

Presented by San Benito County’s Economic Development Corporation, City of Hollister, San Benito County Chamber of Commerce and Hollister Downtown Association, the trade show starts today at noon at Veterans Memorial Building. It will end at 7pm.

About 80 Hollister and San Benito County businesses and organizations will host booths at the trade show, telling consumers what they do and looking for new employees.

“It’s to promote the awareness in the community of the businesses we have here, to let people see who’s here,” said Al Martinez, EDC director and trade show chairman. “It reminds me of the county fair. It’s very unique, everybody knows everybody. People laugh and talk and have a good time. It’s a picker-upper.”

In addition to browsing the booths today at Veterans Memorial Building, trade show attendees will have the opportunity to sample food from local restaurants while they meet and greet, making the trade show a popular place to mingle.

The trade show’s “social hour” will be this evening from 5:30 to 7pm. It will feature food from San Juan Oaks, Ridgemark Golf and Country Club, Mi Casa taqueria, Progresso’s tamales and the Elegant Touch and Main Street Bistro.

Since the annual trade show began a decade ago, it has grown from a small event to one local businesses and residents alike flock to year after year. Last year more than a thousand people attended the event.

“It’s a friendly environment, and the truth is that this is a small community where everybody knows each other, so there’s a familiarity now,” Martinez said.
