BIRTHDAY: Patricia Hernandez: Patricia Hernandez, born Jan. 10, 1914 in Anaheim, recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
Patricia lived on her own in San Jose until the age of 98 and now lives in Newman. She was widowed in her early 40s, and is a mother of seven, grandmother of 34, great-grandmother of 85 and great-great-grandmother of 38. She loves to dance and gamble.
A celebration of life will be held for Patricia from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 25 at Temple Emmanuel, 16705 Butterfield Blvd., Morgan Hill.

Brian Hix
Brian Hix, of Morgan Hill, was one of 10 California Lutheran University students chosen by their peers to participate in an ancient Swedish ceremony because they best represent the attributes of a Christian martyr. Hix, a music major, was a junior class representative on the court during the Sankta Lucia Festival Dec. 12 in Samuelson Chapel.
Undergraduate students select five female and five male representatives whose depth of character and faith make them leaders in the CLU community to participate in the service. One of CLU’s oldest traditions, the festival pays homage to the martyr who died at the stake on Dec. 13, 304 A.D. Members of Lucia’s court light the candles in her crown during the ceremony.
Sebastian Forbush
Sebastian Forbush, of Hollister, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester of the 2013-2014 academic year at Augustana College. The dean’s list recognizes full-time students who have a minimum of 12 credit hours with grade-point averages at 3.5 or above.
Founded in 1860, Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., is a selective, residential, comprehensive college of the Lutheran Church.
Tracey Givens
Tracey Givens, of Morgan Hill, was named to the president’s list for Graceland University’s 2013 fall term. Students with a perfect 4.0 grade point average are named to the president’s list.
Graceland University is a liberal arts university with it’s main campus located in Lamoni, Iowa, and is sponsored by Community of Christ.
Angelyn Haughey
Angelyn Haughey, of Morgan Hill, earned a spot on the dean’s list for the fall 2013 semester at George Fox University. Students had to earn a grade point average of 3.5 or better to land a spot on the list. Angelyn is a senior majoring in nursing.

Sydney Main, of Morgan Hill, earned a spot on the school’s dean’s list for the fall 2013 semester at George Fox University. Students had to earn a grade point average of 3.5 or better to land a spot on the list. Angelyn is a senior majoring in economics.

Liam Morin
Private First Class Liam McKenzie Morin, 19 of Gilroy, graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego Jan. 10.
PFC Morin successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD San Diego as one of 463 recruits in Golf Company/Platoon 2143. While in recruit training, he achieved the following: Meritorious honor as squad leader of Platoon 2143.
Following 10 days home on leave, he will report to Camp Pendleton for one month at military combat training then military occupation specialty school.
Cameron Pappa
Cameron Pappa, of Gilroy, was named to the 2013 fall semester dean’s list at Ohio Wesleyan University.
To qualify, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes.
