Police arrested a Hollister man for attempted murder and an
array of other domestic violence-related charges Monday after he
allegedly tried to stab a woman a number of times before she
escaped with minor injuries.

A verbal argument which allegedly escalated into violence put Ricardo Rodriguez, 45, behind bars early Monday morning for felony attempted murder, false imprisonment, threatening to kill a woman and domestic violence, according to Hollister Police spokesman George Ramirez.
Around 2:30am Monday, Rodriguez allegedly initiated the violent altercation by pushing the woman onto a bed, pulling a small folding knife from his waistband and threatening to kill her, Ramirez said.
During the struggle, Rodriguez allegedly tried to stab the woman, but she was able to maneuver out of his way and he stabbed the wall instead, Ramirez said. He then threw her to the floor and cut her finger when she tried to take the knife away from him, he said.
He again allegedly tried to stab her, but embedded the knife into a door instead, Ramirez said.
The woman was able to finally escape and ran to a friend’s house nearby where she called police, he said.
When officers arrived at the home in the 100 block of Ventura Court shortly after, Rodriguez was taken into custody without any resistance, Ramirez said.
The woman suffered some small cuts to her fingers and a complaint of pain to her legs and back but refused medical attention, he said.
Rodriguez was booked into the San Benito County Jail in lieu of $570,000 bail, according to jail personnel. He faces up to nine years in prison if convicted of the charges, according to District Attorney John Sarsfield.
Although the district attorney’s office is closed to the public this week so office staff can get caught up on nearly 300 cases that have yet to be typed and filed, Sarsfield said his attorneys are taking care of all cases where arrests are made this week, and will handle the attempted murder case “without any difficulty.”
