I wrote a letter published in the Free Lance on Jan. 13 with my
opinion about Measure G. In the letter I said Measure G, in my
opinion, is backwards. It is selfish. What Measure G has done here
is to pit this community one against the other. It has caused so
much hate. Destroyed good relationships. It’s sad when everybody
knows everybody and they aren’t able to look each other in the eye.
It was my opinion then and it is my opinion today that the closer
we get to the election, the uglier it gets. To me, Measure G has a
very strong odor. The supporters of this measure thought they were
going to stick this down our throats without opposition (come on).
This is America.

I, for one, grew up on a ranch. I’m still on a ranch and I love my animals and land and wouldn’t trade my life for anything. At 75, I can say I work hard to keep things in good shape. So if anyone comes by they can’t call me lazy. Nothing fancy, but in fair shape. I feel this measure ties my hands behind my back. In case I get in a bind, I want to be able to sell a piece of my land, not a big chunk.

This measure not only hurts the farmers, but it will also destroy the great workforce we have created in this county. They will have to move to find a better future. I hope they take the young ones with them when they have to go so that they don’t have to live in this environment. Leaving behind their families, the old people, the sick and the poor. Right now, with all the changes, where are our workers? The many ones that I used to see were happy and busy. Most were raised here, made a living here. You don’t see them anymore because they leave at 4 or 5 in the morning and only get back at 7 or 8 at night. If Measure G passes, it will get much worse. That’s what the supporters of Measure G want to see.

I will be taken to the grave with scars from walking in bare feet. I blame that on the greedy, the selfish and the ones in love with power. Remember, after we die, we are all worth the same. I like to say the ones who created Measure G must love misery. They declared war by starting this. You’re not going to get away with it.

For the ones writing anonymous letters, I have doubts about those letters. To me, it seems they have no clue. How many cows can you raise on one acre? Or how many loaves of bread in a sack of flour? With your permission, there is an old saying “any burro can sing.” If you’d like to be believed, sign your letters.

With all the changes Measure G will bring if it passes, I see the ones who want to benefit the most. And those are the ones who like to live on welfare. They can collect a check without being afraid that they will have to work for the money. I don’t think you’d be able to send them to Santa Clara County. Second, it benefits our leaders, enjoying their little “to-do” with a knife and cheese in their hands. They can cut them the way they want. The only thing they have to be sure of is balancing the budget in a way so that they can all have their checks at the end of the month.

More rain, more rest. God works in mysterious ways, gives us the air in a way we can see it, the only way you can take it from me is squeeze my throat and this is what Measure G supporters are trying to do to us.

I read the letter by someone who is afraid how this county will survive without so-and-so. I would like to answer that we are doing a lot better without Richard Nixon and all his associates. As well as I know Don Marcus, this county would be blessed if he got elected. He’s a great man, has a great personality and has excellent experience, expertise and vision. You name it. I’ve know this man since he was a kid. He’s from a good family. I worked with his father for 17 years and that man couldn’t hurt a fly. You would not be let down. I’m not from that district, but if I could I would vote for him.

Cards need to be shuffled and this county is overdue for that. Time to stop rudeness.

People of San Benito County, the way I feel, Measure G stinks. I’m going to vote NO on G. I hope you do the same.

Hollister
