At Monday night’s Veterans’ Memorial Park Commission meeting, the five commissioners approved the improvements.

The Hollister Heat field is located south of the small softball field.

Around the field, Hollister Heat volunteers will put in a grass area and separate practice area, which will require removing some dead trees. The improvements will cut down on dust and bring the surrounding area up to par with the new field, said Commissioner Pat Loe. The cost will be covered by Hollister Heat through donations.

Also at the meeting, the commission elected its 2004 chair and vice chair. Reb Monaco remained chair and Robert Gonzales remained vice chair.

Commissioner Richard Herrera attended his first meeting Monday night. He replaced long-time Commissioner Earl Gunnels who died last year.
