Lori Levesque Thompson and William M. Barry announce their engagement and departure from the South Valley to their new home in the Southernmost City in the continental United States, Key West, Fla.

Lori is a 14-year resident of Gilroy and a San Jose native. She regretfully, but for a good reason, is departing her active roles from several community organizations that include serving as a Director for the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, a Chamber Ambassador, the Gilroy Rotary Club, and the Gilroy Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was past Treasurer and a 14-year member of the church choir.

She will also say goodbye to many of her friends made while working as the Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Industrial Health Development for Pinnacle Urgent Care with medical facilities serving Morgan Hill, Gilroy, Hollister and four Central Coast counties. She was part of the original Indian Motorcycle start-up team and before Bill’s arrival had worked at the Gilroy Dispatch.

Lori is excited about sharing her new life and living on a tropical island, but has promised she will return twice yearly to maintain the many bonds of friendship created during her Silicon Valley and Garlic City lifetime.

“We visited Key West twice this past year and I am excited about the literary history and the art galleries; there are more galleries per capita than any other city in the country.”

Bill for the past two years was the Group Publisher for the Gilroy Dispatch, Morgan Hill Times and Hollister Free Lance until the sale of the newspapers last month.

Before coming to Northern California he lived in the Southernmost City for eight years where he also published the daily newspaper founded by his family 125 years earlier, until that paper was also sold. He has a 33-year career in newspapers, including launching USA Today in the Rocky Mountain States.

Bill said he closed up his Key West home and came to the West Coast on a post-Sept. 11 tour of America.

“I arrived in Northern California two years ago as a single guy for over 14 years with a couple of suitcases. A year later I had a fiancee, a fully furnished home, two cars and a dog. Key West was never quite home, now wherever we are I will always be at home.”

The couple wishes all of their friends a farewell and looks forward to sharing sunsets together in Key West.
