When will we see the final chapter of the ongoing and bizarre
soap opera at the San Benito County District Attorney’s office?
From the blatant display of injustice in the Robert Orabuena
prosecution and trial, to the silly huff over missing furniture, to
the shameful Brady Law press conference
– which has brought on yet another major lawsuit against the
city and county – to the in-progress botching of the Santos murder
charges, we the people are getting bleary-eyed.
When will we see the final chapter of the ongoing and bizarre soap opera at the San Benito County District Attorney’s office?

From the blatant display of injustice in the Robert Orabuena prosecution and trial, to the silly huff over missing furniture, to the shameful Brady Law press conference – which has brought on yet another major lawsuit against the city and county – to the in-progress botching of the Santos murder charges, we the people are getting bleary-eyed.

But wait. John Sarsfield has one more bad script. A standing criminal grand jury.

Lights, camera … huh?

Why would there be a need for a criminal grand jury when there is already one in place that can be used for the rare times it would be needed?

– To waste more taxpayer money? Yes.

– To waste more time for the DA’s office staff, which is supposedly so short-handed? Yes.

– To hide information from the public as well as possible? You bet.

– To possibly carry out even more political vendettas, despite the huge gaffe with the Brady fiasco? Guilty again.

We have not taken Sarsfield to task for never showing up in court to prosecute even the high-profile cases, but maybe it’s time we do. It would at least show the citizens of San Benito County they are getting something out of the person they elected to the key office.

Instead we are getting:

– A double-standard (Orabuena in jail for a year, political pals get deals cut)

– Lies and lawsuits (Brady)

– Pettiness (furniture-gate)

And more and more distraction, some of it from within the DA’s office itself, from what should be the goal of helping keep the citizens of San Benito County safe through fair and expert criminal prosecution.

Why not add the fictional Sara Jones letter to the credits, since many fingers are pointing at the DA’s office as its origin?

Now we have the cloak-and-dagger criminal grand jury, which should draw immediate attention from the state Attorney General, who must now keep a separate filing cabinet on San Benito County shenanigans.

When will the curtain come down?

If it continues on this string of soap opera reruns, voters will certainly change the channel at the end of Sarsfield’s term, if not sooner.
