A long time ago, I got into a discussion about a theory to play the game of golf much simpler.

If you could take the one club you could hit the ball 150 yards straight with, how easy would the game be?

For instance, a par-5 of 500 yards, you would be 50 yards from the green in three strokes.

For most par-4s, you would be on in three strokes, and for most par-3s, you would be on or near in one stroke. How simple is that?

Now you only need a wedge and a putter – three clubs counting the first.

Why then is the game so tough with 14 clubs? The other 11 clubs we can’t hit the ball straight with. That is something to think about.

For more help with what to do with the other 11 clubs, see your local PGA or LPGA golf professional.
