arrested with 10 felony charges last week, including hit and run
and possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a
firearm.

The chase began when San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team (UNET) attempted to conduct a probation search of 22-year-old David Munoz’s home Wednesday, after he failed to report to his probation officer for about five months, according to the sheriff’s department.
But before the convoy of eight officers reached his residence at 2151 Buena Vista Road around 3 p.m., Deputy Roy Iler spotted Munoz leaving his house in a small green car from his patrol car, he said.
When Iler made a U-turn and flipped on his lights to pull over the suspect, Munoz fled and a short car chase ensued.
It ended on Central Avenue when Munoz crashed the car into a retaining wall between two houses, Iler said.
With Iler in pursuit, Munoz fled on foot through three yards on West Side Boulevard then eluded officers by hiding in a garage.
By that time, California Highway Patrol and Hollister Police Department officers had arrived to assist the sheriff’s deputies and UNET members. About 15 law enforcement officers were searching for Munoz.
“We set up a perimeter and did a door-to-door search,” Iler said. “We finally located him on La Machia Court, hiding inside a garage under a pile of blankets.”
After deputies arrested Munoz and turned him over to UNET officers, they went back to his residence and conducted the probation search, seizing drugs and firearms.
Munoz was booked Wednesday evening into the San Benito County Jail with 10 felony charges, two misdemeanors and a probation violation, Iler said.
His prior arrests included several weapon and drug charges, and with the slew of new ones, Munoz is incarcerated at the jail with no bail, said Deputy Brian Tempero.
He will remain in custody until he goes to court.
Munoz was booked for possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of an illegal weapon, resisting arrest and hit and run.
