The San Juan Bautista City Council re-appointed Planning Commissioner Jack Evans to the planning commission Tuesday.
Evans agreed to continue serving on the commission until the end of the year.
After eight years on the commission, Evans’ term was up in January of 2003, but because there were no applicants for the position, Evans agreed to continue at his post until the city can find a replacement, City Manager Larry Cain said.
Three positions, including Evans’, will be vacated in January of 2005 if none of the current commissioners decide to stay, he said.
Evans suggested that the council host a workshop about the planning commission to help generate interest if no one pursues the positions, Cain said.
“It’s just a suggestion right now, but we like the idea,” Cain said. “(A workshop) could happen during the summer or in early fall.”
In other action, the San Juan Bautista Chamber of Commerce gave a presentation to the council about their work to purchase a billboard on Highway 101, just south of the city, Cain said.
The chamber asked the city to help finance the billboard they hope will bring more tourists to the historic town, Cain said.
The council will continue discussion on the possibility of sharing the cost of the billboard with the chamber at a special meeting Tuesday, April 27.
