Calling all videomakers! Or those who have no idea how to use a Camcorder! CMAP has a few training opportunities for you. If you haven’t checked out our workshop calendar lately, allow me to present to you the highlights. First of all, if you’ve heard about CMAP or have been toying with the idea of making your own video or television show, sign up for orientation. Maybe you’ve been curious as to how a television show works behind the scenes and want to learn how to direct or run a camera. Either way, orientation is step one. Our next orientation is taking place Tuesday, April 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. The workshop is free, and you’ll have an opportunity to sign up for these other video workshops at that time.

Speaking of … we’ve got a Field Production Workshop on the horizon. On Saturday, April 17, from 11 to 4 p.m., you’ll learn how to use CMAP’s Camcorders, tripods, mics, lights, etc. – everything you’ve ever wanted to know about videotaping “on location.” The Field Production Workshop is perfect preparation if you plan to borrow our cameras to tape a school play, a public service announcement for your nonprofit, or a special community event.

Maybe you’ve got a camera, and field production isn’t necessary for you. Still, a lesson in editing all of those videos you’ve shot would be divine. As it turns out, CMAP is holding a digital editing workshop simultaneously on Saturday, April 17, 11 to 4 p.m. Our staff will teach you how to use our easy Screenplay Editing System, so that you can cut out all of that unwanted footage and assemble a masterpiece for airing on Channel 20. In addition, you can learn how to add titles, special effects and music.

Speaking of (once again) … we’re introducing a brand new workshop at the end of this month called the Music and Sound FX Seminar. When you intend to put a video on television, you need to be sure that you have permission to use the music in that video. You don’t want Britney Spears coming after you (not that she writes her own songs anyway, but that’s another story). Using special software, CMAP can teach you how to create music for your video that is copyright free, meaning no permissions needed. If you’ve had a little editing experience but still need music, sign up for the Tuesday, April 20 seminar.

Finally, a reminder to nonprofit organizations out there that would like some free publicity on our channel: CMAP offers its quarterly free Public Service Announcement Day on Friday, April 30. Nonprofits serving Gilroy, Hollister or San Juan Bautista are invited to contact us for more information about how to make a free PSA for airing on the community channels. Call CMAP at (408) 846-4983, or check out the Web site at www.mycmap.org and click on the “Products & Services” link.
