The Hollister National 11-year-old All-Stars muscled up to win their first game of the tournament Tuesday night against Salinas American at Atlantic Park in Salinas.

Everyone hit the ball well for Hollister and most had multiple hits in the 30-1 victory. The National team put together several hits in a row and then capitalized on errors.

Hollister had a fairly slow start in the game, scoring just one run in the first inning but broke it open in the final three innings to win by the 10-rule rule.

Adrian Casarez hit a home run in the second inning and helped the Hollister team pick up some momentum. The big hit helped the team grow more confident, said coach Mike Martinez.

“It’s always tough in the first game because you don’t know what to expect,” Martinez said. “I don’t see another game like that coming up. They will all be really close.”

Hollister went with four pitchers in the game to keep everyone fresh – Dillon Di Napoli, Rolando Robles, Carlos Casas and Greg Bayer.

Hollister scored seven runs in the seventh inning, six in the third and then 16 in the fourth.

“We just went base to base,” Martinez said. “We weren’t really trying to take advantage of anything. It just kept snowballing.”

Hollister will play against Continental at Continental Friday at 5:30 p.m.
