ENGAGEMENT: Keim/Downs: Lisa Keim and Jeff Downs are engaged to be married.
Lisa, daughter of David Keim of Gilroy and Nanci Keim of Everett, Wash., is a medical assistant with the Everett Clinic.
Jeff, son of Ivan Downs of Ava, Mo. and Betty Closser of Sultan, Wash., is president of Paintscape, Inc.
The couple is planning an Aug. 23 wedding in Snohomish, Wash.

Raul Cobarrubias
Gilroy native Raul Cobarrubias recently graduated from the Sacramento Campus of Universal Technical Institute (UTI), the leading provider of post-secondary education for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians.
Cobarrubias attended Gilroy High School before completing the Automotive Technology and Training Program at UTI. Cobarrubias received Student of the Course (SOC) honors, which are given to the student with the highest grade in a given course.
Cobarrubias’ career goal is to open his own business and earn an engineering degree.
Kevin Waddell
Air Force Airman Kevin A. Waddell graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Waddell is the son of Joyce Comstock of Gilroy and earned a bachelor’s degree in 2009 from the DigiPen Institute of Technology, Redmond, Wash.
Shaunie Hewell
Shaunie Tylar Hewell was named to the dean’s List for the fall semester at San Diego State University. Shaunie, whose parents are Sabrina and Mark Hewell, is a 2010 graduate of Gilroy High School. Shaunie carries a 3.95 GPA and studies sociology.
