Four years ago, Modesto couple Rich and Jennate Mauer made their first motorcycle run together to the Hollister Independence Day Rally.
Every year since they’ve come back together, but this year’s rally they will remember forever.
Because this year they got married, smack dab in the middle of thousands of bikes at San Benito and Fifth streets on Sunday afternoon.
The ceremony was held at the top of a photo tower, the bride’s long white dress and veil swirling around her in the summer breeze.
“Have you ever seen anybody else do it this way?” Rich said afterwards, as strangers passed by on the sidewalks offering their congratulations.
The couple had been dating for about five years and engaged for over a year. They decided a couple months ago to get married during the rally, but didn’t finalize the plans until they arrived in Hollister on Saturday, Jennate said.
The approximately 10-minute long ceremony culminated in roars from the crowd and a new marriage made in biker heaven.
Unlike many weddings, this one ran fairly cheap, which left them with plenty of money for a cruise they plan to take for their honeymoon, Rich said.
“We paid for the minister and the lift people gave us a free ride as a wedding gift,” Jennate said. “Now we’re gonna go for a ride.
