Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital announced it has received a “5-star rating” for the quality of its hip fracture treatment from Healthgrades, according to the hospital in a recent newsletter.
According to the hospital’s announcement:
This achievement is part of new findings released in American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2014: Healthgrades Report to the Nation, which evaluates hospital performance at over 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.
“We are extremely proud of these ratings as they reflect the commitment of our physicians and staff to providing high-quality care to our patients,” said Ken Underwood, Chief Executive Officer. “The rating provides assurance that patients who come to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital can receive outstanding care in their own community. I can also assure you we pursue the same standard of excellence in all the other areas of care which we provide.”
“We have an excellent group of physicians at the Hazel Hawkins Orthopedic and Joint Center,” states Underwood.
The Center, located at 930 Sunnyslope Road, Suite C-4, is directed by G. Allen Gustafson, M.D. and has a team of four orthopedic surgeons, all with extensive expertise in their field. The group consists of Gustafson, Paul Berman, M.D., Frank Bunch, M.D. and Neil Richman, M.D.
“Since all hospitals do not perform equally in all procedures, patients can have confidence that by selecting a physician associated with a hospital with five-star performance, for a specific procedure or condition, they can potentially improve outcomes and reduce costs,” said Evan Marks, EVP, Strategy and Informatics, Healthgrades.
For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 40 million Medicare-patient records for nearly 4,500 short term acute care hospitals nationwide, assessing hospital performance. Healthgrades awards hospitals quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality.
Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as five-star (statistically better than expected), threestar (statistically as expected) and one-star (statistically worse than expected) categories. Detailed performance information, such as cohort-specific outcomes data and quality achievements for individual hospitals may be found at www.healthgrades.com/find-a-hospital.
