Dear Editor:

I’m saddened to see that once again the owners of the Pinnacle newspaper are on the attack of any individual that doesn’t bow to their beliefs. The Pinnacle, a once great newspaper, was started by a local legendary figure to expose the corruption of the Good Ol’ Boy network in San Benito County. Unfortunately, a few years ago the Pinnacle was bought by out-of-towners craving power with little regard for the truth. The Pinnacle is now nothing more than a tabloid owned by people who shake down community members for profit.

The obvious goal of this paper is to control citizens of this county by intimidation so that those close to them can continue to make millions by developing the county. Those that had the courage to stand up and speak out against the corruption that has permeated this county over the last decade have had to suffer the wrath of incredible lies created by the yellow journalism now employed by the Pinnacle.

One thing should be clear to all the Free Lance readers – the truth always wins out. No matter how hard the Pinnacle tries to cover up the wrongdoings of the current Board of Supervisors and others, the public will eventually learn the truth.

The citizens of San Benito County deserve to know that when the newly elected Board of Supervisors takes office in January that once again we will have leaders that we can trust and believe in. No longer will millions of our tax dollars be used to intimidate residents through lawsuits or create jobs that pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for special friends. No longer will supervisors become millionaires by illegally re-zoning properties that others cannot. Most importantly, no longer will we have to worry about our supervisors trying to take away our property rights for their own gains.

Perhaps the owners of the Pinnacle are getting rich from their lies or their alleged partnership with one of the supervisors in this county, but one thing is for sure – journalists they are not. Yellow journalists they are.
