Hollister – San Benito High School will open its doors Wednesday evening, and is inviting all parents to attend and meet their child’s teachers and administrators at Back to School Night.
At 6:15pm, parents will split up into three groups depending on the first letter of their last name, and meet with their child’s support team, which includes an assistant principal, counselors, guidance technicians and support managers. Students stay with the same team throughout high school, so it’s a great opportunity for the parents to get to know the faculty that will be guiding their child to graduation, according to Principal Debbie Padilla. Parents will also have a chance to meet with their child’s teachers and get copies of the class requirements and curriculum schedules.
“This is great because it helps them when they’re at home and a child has questions, they know exactly what’s expected of them,” Padilla said.
Along with meeting teachers, parents can also get a taste of what activities are available to their children. The Associated Student Body will have booths set up with information about the different clubs and organizations on campus, and the band, color guard, choir and spiritleaders will be on hand to provide entertainment throughout the night.
A meeting for Spanish-speaking parents will also be held at 6:15pm in room 222, and those parents interested in the safety of the school can participate in a parent focus group directly after the meeting at 8pm in the cafeteria.
“There will be a presentation about the school’s safety plan, and then we’ll move the parents into small groups and they can talk about it,” Padilla said.
