Dear Editor,
Last week I had the honor of representing California as a member of the state delegation to the Republican National Convention in New York City.
The California Delegation was a diverse group comprised of more than 50 percent women and more than 30 percent ethnic minorities, thereby reinforcing the message that today’s Republican party welcomes everyone.
All the California delegates (not the taxpayers) financed themselves for all transportation, housing costs, excursions and convention activities.
The convention speakers (both Democrat and Republican) paid tribute to President George W. Bush’s character, integrity and determination to build a safer and democratic world. My favorite speaker was “America’s Mayor” Rudy Giuliani, who spoke to us as if he were in our own living rooms. Mr. Giuliani reminded us of the human side of our president and how he interacted so well with those affected during 9-11.
The culmination of the week was the president’s nomination acceptance speech on Thursday night. The mood in Madison Square Garden was electrifying, and the “theater in the round” style of the stage allowed us to see the president up close and personal.
The president proceeded to lay out a very specific agenda for both domestic issues and foreign policy, and it gave affirmation to the delegates’ frequent cry of “Four More Years.”
Viva Bush!
