After Tuesday’s election, not one face on the Gavilan College
Board of Trustees will change.
In the only contested seat out of three up for grabs, Gilroy
area incumbent Mark Dover easily beat out challenger Manly Willis
to serve a second four-year term.
Gilroy – After Tuesday’s election, not one face on the Gavilan College Board of Trustees will change.
In the only contested seat out of three up for grabs, Gilroy area incumbent Mark Dover easily beat out challenger Manly Willis to serve a second four-year term.
Dover led the race throughout the evening, garnering nearly three-quarters of the votes.
The 38-year-old lifelong Gilroy resident, who teaches and coaches sports at North Monterey County High School, had 10,455 votes as of press time, compared to Willis’ 3,950 votes, in Santa Clara County. About 72 of 87 precincts in Gilroy and Morgan Hill were reporting.
San Benito County voters also overwhelmingly chose Dover over Willis, giving him 7,391 votes and Willis 2,702 by the time all the ballots were counted, . Voters in Gavilan’s district – including Gilroy, Morgan Hill and San Benito County – all vote on each available seat.
Dover could not be reached for comment by press time. Willis declined to comment for this story.
Two other seats were up Tuesday night, but did not appear on the ballot because they were uncontested.
Incumbents Leonard Washington, in the Morgan Hill area, and Tom Breen, in San Benito County, will again join Dover at the Gavilan dais. They will be re-appointed to their current seats by the board president.
