Kenneth James Bosworth, who played on the varsity water polo team for San Benito High School, died on Jan. 1, 2003 as a result of an auto accident. He was 19.

Mr. Bosworth was born in Placerville. He attended school locally, including Fremont Grammar School, San Benito, Anzar High School and San Andreas High School.

Mr. Bosworth loved to play basketball, water polo, surf and ride skate boards. He was studying to become a psychologist. He taught swimming lessons to those with disabilities and because he was 6-5 he would get on his knees in the water so as to not intimidate the students. Other hobbies included playing the guitar, writing poems and stories. He wanted to help those in need.

Mr. Bosworth’s parents, James and Kathleen Bosworth of Aromas, and siblings Andrea Roach of Walnut Creek, Kimberly Bosworth of Gilroy and his twin Jennifer Bosworth of Gilroy survive him. He also is survived by grandparents Ardis Bosworth of Placerville, Cliff and Alma Meyer of Citrus Heights and Don Roach of Ft. Thomas, Ariz.

A celebration of Mr. Bosworth’s life was held Saturday at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home in Hollister. A private cremation was followed by a private interment Sunday at Placerville Union Cemetery. Donations are preferred to the San Benito High School Boys Water Polo Boosters Club Foundation c/o the mortuary.

Theresa D’Agostino

Theresa D’Agostino died Jan. 2, 2003 at the Southside Convalescent Hospital after a long battle with illness. She was 93.

Mrs. D’Agostino was born in 1909 in Sicily. She enjoyed being with her family, cooking sewing and planting vegetables from seed and tending to them. She was a homemaker and housewife. Mrs. D’Agostino and her late husband were truck farmers in the Berryessa area of San Jose before moving to Hollister 60 years ago.

Mrs. D’Agostino is survived by three children, John D’Agostino of San Jose, Salvatore S. D’Agostino of Hollister, Tina Bertuccio of Hollister and seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and Adriana Helt, a devoted friend and caregiver for Mrs. D’Agostino for more than 12 years. She is also survived by siblings Angelo Veneziano of Mindon, Nevada and Art, Salvatore and Joe Veneziano all of Waterbury, Conn. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Private services were held at the Calvary Mausoleum Chapel on Monday. Entombment followed at the family crypt. Donations are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association c/o Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, which handled the arrangements.

Helen J. Guerrero

Helen J. Guerrero of Hollister died on Jan. 1, 2003. She was 55.

Private services were held at the Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman. Arrangements were made by Mission Chapel of San Jose.

Inez Martin

Inez Martin died on Jan. 5, 2003 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital. She was 58.

Ms. Martin was a lifelong resident of San Benito County. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and attended Bingo there since its inception. She is survived by her mother, Inez Y. Martin of Hollister, and was preceded in death by her father, Leo Martin. Her brothers and sister also survive her: Romaldo Martin of Hollister, Leo Martin of Hollister, Jerry Martin of Hollister, Rosemary Vallejo of Hollister, Tina Ramage of Hollister, Adela Freitas of San Juan Bautista, Paula Martin of Hollister and Billie Rovella of Hollister. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.

The funeral begins at 10:30 a.m. today at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, proceeding to Sacred Heart Church for an 11 a.m. service. The interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Contributions are preferred to HOPE Rehabilitation Services or a charity of one’s choice.

Tony F. Matulich

Tony F. Matulich died Jan. 2, 2003 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister. He was 76.

Mr. Matulich was a member of the U.S. Army and served in WWII. He was a member of Hollister Lodge No. 1436 BPOE, The Farm Bureau, Sacred Heart Church, Ridgemark Golf Club and Men’s Club. His family said that working was his favorite hobby and playing golf was secondary. He loved to farm and raise apricots, tomatoes, walnuts, lettuce and sugar beets. Mr. Matulich was a farmer since the age of 16.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Matulich of Hollister and children Susan Colter, Toni Brady and Mitch Matulich all of Hollister. A sibling, Margaret Hooper of Hollister, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive him.

A memorial service was held at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home on Tuesday. As per Mr. Matulich’s wishes, arrangements were made for cremation with private inurnment at Calvary Cemetery.

James William Montgomery

James William Montgomery died Jan. 1, 2003 at his home after a long illness. He was 56.

Mr. Montgomery attended school in Morro Bay and also went to Gavilan College. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was part of the Machinist’s Union of Salinas and Watsonville.

Mr. Montgomery was a member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting and shooting. He also enjoyed building engines, welding and fabricating. Mr. Montgomery was very fond of animals and leaves his pet dog of 17 years, Toby. He and his wife celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary Dec. 19. He loved very much to spend time with his family.

Montgomery is survived by his wife Joan Montgomery of Hollister, son Jason Montgomery of Hollister and daughter Jennifer Hopcroft of Paicines. He is also survived by three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was Monday at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home in Hollister. Interment with military honors followed at the IOOF cemetery.

Esther Ghione O’Neal

Esther Ghione O’Neal died Dec. 6, 2002 in Petaluma. She was 82.

Mrs. O’Neal was born on Mar. 5, 1920 in San Jose. She attended local schools. She is survived by son Tin O’Neal of Canada and siblings Louie Ghione, Annie Bartle and Josephine Rose all of Hollister. Three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

A memorial service was held at Adobe Creek Funeral Home in Petaluma.

Florence Cynthia Trimble

Florence Cynthia (See) Trimble, a lifelong advocate for benevolent organizations and causes and one of former President George Bush’s 1,000 Points of Light, died in Gilroy on Dec. 29, 2002. She was 92.

Mrs. Trimble received numerous awards for her work, including the Northern

California-Nevada United Methodist Church Bishop’s Award; the Santa Clara

County Human Relations Commission Toni Sykes Award; the JC Penney Golden Rule

Award; and recognition from the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, California-Nevada United Methodist Women, and three Presidents of the United States. She was one of the recipients of Bush’s 1000 Points of Light awards. The Gilroy Methodist Church named its new education building for her, and the Gilroy Dispatch dubbed her “the Mother Teresa of Gilroy.”

Mrs. Trimble was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John R. Trimble, and a son, Paul LeRoy Trimble. Survivors include: son Ray Trimble of Morgan Hill; son Mark Rafanelli of Sacramento; daughter Mary Trimble of Sacramento; and son Joe Trimble of Daly City.

Mrs. Trimble was born on July 22, 1910 at Barnard, Kan., and was graduated Cum Laude from Kansas Weslyan University in 1932, when she began her teaching career. She married John Trimble on June 10, 1934 in Evanston, Ill., where he was completing his ministerial training. The couple served churches in Kansas, Wyoming, and Iowa before moving to California with their five children in 1948. In California they continued their ministry in Tranquility, Fresno,

Farmersville, Poplar, and Tipton. They moved to Gilroy in 1970 following her husband’s retirement. Mrs. Trimble was a reading resource specialist in the Morgan Hill Unified School District until her retirement in 1978. She continued teaching English as a Second Language until last year. She worked unceasingly to provide shelter for homeless people in the Gilroy area.

Florence was a life-long activist. She inspired others with her continual benevolence. People wishing to give donations in her memory could contribute

Dorothy A. Wilson

Dorothy A. Wilson died Jan. 6 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. She was 85.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Seminole, Okla., and came to Hollister from Hawaiian Gardens in 1980. She was a member of The Baptist Church and AARP.

She was preceded in death in 1966 by her husband, Fred. She is survived by her children Martha Jo Beauregard of Las Vegas, Fred Wilson Jr. of Texas, James Wilson of Washington and Cathy Holmes of San Juan Bautista, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services are Friday at 1 p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery in Hollister. Rev. Larry Ball of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Donations are preferred to Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation for the new nursing home.

Julia Peña Zepeda

Julia Peña Zepeda died Jan. 4, 2003 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. She was 76.

Mrs. Zepeda was born in 1927 in Hawthorne and came to San Benito County in 1940. Mrs. Zepeda was involved in the Sacred Heart Church and was a founding member of Beneficial Society of United Mexicans as the group’s first secretary. She was also a very active member of the Guadalupana Society of Sacred Heart Church.

Mrs. Zepeda was very family oriented and took it upon herself to plan all family get-togethers at her home. Her family stated that she was a “very spiritual person and an avid novelas (soap opera) fan.” She was a homemaker all of her life.

She is survived by a husband of 52 years, Pedro L. Zepeda of Hollister, and was preceded in death by her son Abel Zepeda. She also is survived by grandchildren Christine and Salvador “David” Zepeda of Moreno Valley and one great grandchild, siblings Beatrice Corral of Los Angeles, Ruth Duarte of Hollister, Antonio Luna of Hollister and numerous nieces and nephews.

The rosary and visitation was Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Church. Interment followed at the San Juan District Cemetery. Arrangements were through Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home.
