48-21. If one who knew football saw the final score and didn’t
know which team had won, one would have guessed it would have been
the Raiders, the supposed best offense in football.

Halftime show performer Shania Twain, a possible descendent of Mark Twain, would have described the Raiders’ offense for the first two-thirds of the game as “There is no there there”.

As for the halftime show, there was No Doubt the Bucs were Sting-ing the Raiders, who were “sending out an SOS”.

Did Sting really need No (talent) Doubt to help him out?

I thought the first song Twain sung was by the Dixie Chicks.

As for the commercials, the winner was “Brad meets Alex” beer commercial.

Runner-up: A truck commercial about the passenger choking on the beef jerky who asked the fat guy driver how his diet was going.

Oakland’s losing saved the city of Oakland about a million dollars of repairs and overtime pay for the cops. Still, too much violence.

A telling statement about the Raiders in the first half came from sideline reporter Melissa Stark, who said Raider coach Bill Callahan was going to “open up the playbook in the second half.” Huh?

Kudos to John Madden for saying that the Raiders didn’t look fired up on the sideline early in the second half. “This is the Super Bowl. The world championship.” – Madden

My MVP vote was the same as Madden’s – the Bucs Simeon Rice.

Dexter Jackson was deserving with two INT’s and sure glad it wasn’t another “Tom Brady” pick, ala Super Bowl XXXVI.

Give Tim Brown or Jerry Rice an end around at the beginning of the game to get them involved.

Too many mistakes for the Raiders to win with inexcusable offsides penalties and dropped balls.

And quarterback Rich Gannon picked an inopportune time for one of his worst games of the season. Gannon’s main problem – telegraphing passes.

Throw deep, old man, throw deep! You see what happens?

The Raiders MUST onsides kick after the last touchdown with 6:06 minutes left, down 34-21. That’s a no-brainer. If one is behind, one must gamble.

At this rate, Ronde Barber will be in the Hall of Fame someday.

Ronde’s credit card commercial with his brother, Tiki, was cute the first time, not the last 30. Why God invented the remote.

The first interception return for a TD hurt the most for the Raiders. As it turned out, they were still in the game at the time.

Shame on Gannon for not only throwing five interceptions, but four of them were on patterns 20 yards or less. Down that many points with that little time left, every throw must go deep. If they’re picked off, so be it.

Raiders needed more quick screens to Charlie Garner on the run early in the contest.

The game was lost on a) the Raiders going three-and-out after getting the second half kickoff, b) letting the Bucs come down and score a touchdown right afterwards.

Remember the third-and-two on the above Raiders series? Hitch-and-go to Marcus Knight would have been six or drawn a flag.

Good strategy by the Bucs to squib all of their kicks, not giving Knight a chance for a big return.

A review of the film will reveal countless missed blocks by the Raiders on special teams. Ole!

Refs blew two calls Sunday, overturned the first one, not the second, which wasn’t reviewable, but it should have been. Thanks for sticking with that one.

The Porter touchdown was harder to see. As for Al Michaels, HE HAD CONTROL OF THE BALL, AL!

Bucs beat Raiders by 27, Niners by 25. Niners beat Raiders by three during the season in Oakland. Raiders were in the Super Bowl. Niners weren’t. What does it all mean?

Defense wins championships, again.

It’s lonely out here on the plank. And am regretting having shark for dinner the other night.
