More than 200 vendors from the western United States will display their wares at the fourth annual Peddlers Faire Revisited June 7-8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

“Anything you can think of is in this one, said Terry Marburger, executive director of the San Juan Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the event.

Unlike other sidewalk fairs in San Juan, the chamber allows commercial booths for the Peddlers Faire – even a massage booth, Marburger said.

When the Peddlers Faire began about 11 years ago, it had 50 booths and was held in the parking lot of Mission San Juan Bautista, which proved to be too windy and dirty. It was not held for three years until Marburger decided to bring it back to the streets of San Juan.

“That’s why it’s called ‘revisited,'” she said.

Marburger said the event has tripled in size, from the original 50 booths to last year’s 235. A few years ago she estimated about 75,000 people attended the two day event, but last year attendance dropped.

“The sheriff’s department estimated we had around 25,000-30,000 people a day come through here,” Marburger said. “We hope to have as many as we did last year, but we don’t what’s going to happen with the stock prices, the economy and the war.”

Proceeds from the fair help the chamber promote tourism in the Mission City. The event is sponsored by KTOM radio, KION News 46, KSMS 67, KCBA Fox 35 and the Free Lance. Admission is free.

“Hopefully the weather will be good to us,” Marburger said.
