A view of San Benito County as it was more than 100 years ago will be offered Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. when the county Historical Society hosts an open house at the Historic Village on Highway 25 just south of Tres Pinos, before Bolado Park.
The event will feature 19th-century blacksmith and carpentry shops and a print shop from the 1940s, a quilting demonstration in the Sullivan House garden, old-style classes at Willow Creek School and mountain men demostrating life in the open circa 1840. Play 1880s-style poker with “High Card Johnny” in the dance hall, see gasoline engines from the 1840s that still run and pet friendly farm animals. Free hot dogs and popcorn will be available while supplies last.
Union 4-H invites people to plant a tree at the even in memory of local environmentalist Howard Harris.
A $3 per-vehicle fee may be charged by the county, though no funds are realized by the Historical Society.
