The city will hold the second Community Workshop for the General Plan update June 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hollister Community Center, 300 West St. At the meeting, residents will have the opportunity to offer input on the planning document.
Hollister began a yearlong process of updating the city’s official blueprint for growth in March. The General Plan, last updated in 1995, includes seven main elements, including housing, land use and a city design element – the latter of which has people in each neighborhood choosing a distinct personality for their sector of the city.
“I think it’s going to be very interesting,” said Bill Card, director of the Community Development Department. “I’m really looking forward to hearing from the community on it.”
The first of four workshops occurred April 26. The topic Saturday will be “Land-Use Alternatives,” according to a Community Development Department notice.
He said the city’s 1995 General Plan included three different categories of land use – industrial, commercial and residential. He mentioned the example of commercial designations that have not developed as planned.
“Are the land use patterns working and are they bringing enough economic development to the city?” Card asked.
Representatives from a city-hired consultant – Moore, Iacofano, Goltsman, Inc. – will facilitate the meeting. The firm has attended all General Plan meetings and will continue until the update is complete. Card said a Spanish translator would be in attendance in case any residents need the service.
The firm also guides monthly meetings of the General Plan Steering Committee, which is made up of city planning commissioners and other residents. The next Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for July 8 at 7 p.m.
