Thanks for the article about the traffic calming studies in

“Thanks for the article about the traffic calming studies in Hollister. San Benito County has the highest rate of childhood obesity in the state of California, so I hope traffic safety around schools is a high priority to encourage students to walk to school. There was talk that the City or COG would apply to the state for ‘Safe Routes to Schools’ grant funds this spring – what happened? The parents around Maze School are fairly frantic to get some improvements in safety conditions on Meridian, because in the past few years, six children have been hospitalized from traffic accidents.
The Parents Club at Ladd Lane School asked the city last December to analyze the feasibility of stop sign(s) at the Southside/Sunset intersection. Last year, the number of students (plus proportionately the cars of their parents and school staff) increased from 625 to 850 at Ladd Lane. Cars routinely travel 40 mph plus in front of the school on Southside. Why is there a stop sign on Ruger Court to protect the traffic going to 12 houses on Alissa Drive and Alissa Court but no stop sign on Southside? Maybe the Circulation Element in the General Plan Update will make some sensible recommendations based on the recent data in the traffic calming studies.”
“Almost daily we read of criminal activity by renegade cops, the violation of people’s rights, the beatings of innocent citizens and much more. And yes, there is gang activity within law enforcement, the ‘Code of Silence.’
I hope that the City Council does not make the same mistake that the mayor of Salinas did, backing a renegade cop that did or will cost San Jose thousands of dollars in a lawsuit. Criminal activity in law enforcement casts a shadow of distrust over good law enforcement officers.
The schools have zero tolerance against crimes and/or drugs. I can only hope that the zero tolerance applies to all police agencies across this nation. If we can’t trust law enforcement, then who?
I agree with Robert Scattini and respect his vote on the City Council.”
“Although many people do not approve of the Gray Davis recall, we must not deny the petitioners that right.
The California Constitution reads as follows: Article I. Declaration of rights. Sec. 3. ‘The people have the right to instruct their representatives, petition government for redress of grievances, and assemble freely to consult for the common good.’
In my opinion, for whatever its worth, a petition is a form of assembly. Bad, good or indifferent, we must respect and accept that right.
Any person that attempts to deny the citizens’ right to petition in any way is a violation of the California State Constitution.”
