The only business the no-show DA is dealing with outside the
office is his monkey business. To answer the question regarding the
amount of time an elected official (DA) has to spend at work
– zero hours.
His personal assistant is another matter. She has to put in 40
hours a week; which she is not. In fact, she is wasting 40 hours a
month on coffee and at least that on their long lunches. Now why
isn’t the CAO and the Board doing something about that.
The nasty innuendos about Mandy Rose don’t hold a candle to
this.

“I’m sorry for Janell Judnick and her family’s tragic loss, but disagree with her statement that, ‘Not once with regards to this case did they (Denny Wei and the prosecution) use the newspaper or any other public arena in an attempt to sway public opinion or for political reasons.’

As I recall, for the first month after the accident the Free Lance printed over and over the prosecution’s side of the case. They said over and over how Robert Orabuena was allegedly drunk or under the influence of marijuana. They printed his alleged criminal history as told by the CHP and Denny Wei. He was in fact tried and convicted in that first month. The Free Lance also printed Judy Rider’s comments over and over. This went on for at least a month until the truth finally came out.

Continue to grieve but stop trying to rewrite history.”

“I have lived in Hollister for 22 years. In all that time, I could never understand why the city does not time the traffic lights so traffic does not back up on main street.”

“I came to the Veterans Day Parade and it was very nice to honor all our services of the Navy, Air force, Army and all the branches of the services as my husband was a veteran of World War II who served in the Navy. He has been gone for eight years. My son was in the Vietnam War and it’s an honor to honor all the veterans past and present. One thing that was missing in the parade was the Red Cross. What was the reason this time? Get your thing all together to serve this community.”

“This is in reference to the Nov. 11 comment in the Citizens Voice.

About the ordeal of trying to drive a little car through crowded downtown traffic: Fifteen minutes stopping at all lights from the hospital to Tiffany Ford.

Fighting for clearance or parking with all the oversized SUV’s: Code for ‘can’t drive.’

Also that this driver could not find any place to plug in their private owned electric car: I have never seen a free can of gas by a parking spot for my car.

Furthermore, this same person wants a tax break for buying this wonder machine: Tax break is code for the rest of us paying more.”

“In response to the quote by John Hodges in the Free Lance of Tuesday, Nov. 11, calling for the grand jury to investigate, I must express my opinion. Being a former grand jury member and a lifelong resident, I offer this scrutiny: The grand jury is easily snowed by department heads. Grand jury members picked from the local citizenry do not have the time because their selection is usually made late and they are directed by the District Attorney. Their selection is made by a local judge also.

Since the allegations are directed at local government officials and possibly government employees, the requirements are for a federal grand jury, NOT a local grand jury. Upon reviewing the role of a federal grand jury on the Web, it states they investigate criminal activity and the conduct of public affairs.

The local grand jury is selected by a local judge and is advised by the local District Attorney. Since allegations could possibly involve both a judge and District Attorney, this is a perfect case for a federal grand jury. It would be handled by federal prosecutors from outside the county and the federal grand jury would have a lot more power.

The point to make is if the local grand jury is convened to hear allegations from county employees at the Superior Court where the jury meets, who is to say that wouldn’t be giving the store away with all the sophisticated listening devises they have in the courtroom?

A federal grand jury would not meet there, would remain secret, would have no bias and would be guided by outside federal prosecutors and the defendants would not be allowed to have their attorney represent them in front of the jury. This is the only way any jury in this county would be able to successfully get to the bottom of all that is going on in this county.
