Enough is enough, don’t ya think? I believe this column was
started to provoke thought, maybe change some things, maybe bring
light to others, accolades to some
– is it going that way? I think not.

Now that’s only my opinion. I am not saying for us to all hold hands and sing “CUM BA YAH” but we sure as heck can bring about a lot more positive issues and points (can’t we?) Put aside government, race, religion and key on positive issues that affect us all – from our children to our parents and grandparents.

I was told you’ll catch more flies with honey instead of vinegar. Let’s quit pointing fingers at people or institutions and point out faults. Instead, let’s try to propose plans that have a more positive impact. Highway 25 is safer than it has been in years. Recent test scores from our local schools have been on the rise (thank the teachers). Downtown has gone through a facelift (it is looking 100 percent better for the upcoming holiday season. Thank RDA, HDA and the struggling merchants striving to beautify Hollister and provide a multitude of services and products at the best prices). Thank the limitless organizations that provide services for our children – Little League, Pee Wee football, YMCA, golf clinics, bowling alley, Family Golf Park, Hollister Hills, The Fairgrounds, 4H, FFA, Hollister Rec and the numerous stage companies.

I have pretty much traveled the globe and have never seen a community the size of Hollister, San Juan, Aromas or even the size of County of San Benito (relatively small) offer so many services for our children, whether they play more than one or not. The fact is, it is here, it is available – SO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM!

Healthcare, Hazel Hawkins expansion to San Juan and the other recent additions. The services offered at the Senior Center – food, counseling, TIA is there! The list of ‘HELPING’ institutions is endless as well as the people that volunteer their time and service(s). Community Pantry, throughout the year, is feeding the poor and less fortunate. The number of churches for such a small community is overwhelming. The endless list of companies that give freely of their time and MONEY to help build these cities and county.

So smile and pass it on, this is a great place to live, take in recreation, entertainment, go to school, buy a house, raise a family and retire.

So there are some obstacles, but no one ever said it was going to be easy. Be positive. Help make positive changes and if you have to, give constructive criticism not destructive. Happy Holidays!”
