“We started handling the ball better and working it inside more,” said coach Tom Dean. “We just got a couple of the girls out from volleyball, and they started to get to know each other a little better in the second. They are a good team and played better than I was expecting.”
The Balers had 17 offensive boards and 20 defensive rebounds. Courtney Almaguer, Denise Simens and Mallorie Wilson led the way in rebounding. Jamie Hall had several nice blocked shots. Johni Kiesewetter and Christina Osborne also had strong games defensively.
The team was 8 for 17 from behind the free throw line.
“All 14 girls got to play,” Dean said. “I was very pleased with their effort. The second half was totally different. The girls put out a major effort the way they have in practice.”
The Balers will play at Independence on Thursday and at Watsonville on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Note: The Balers JV team lost a close game by two points to Santa Catalina.
