eWaste Recycling fundraiser: Sacred Heart Parish School will host an eWaste recycling fundraiser Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Sacred Heat Parish School parking lot. Residents can recycle old TVs, computers, monitors and other electric devices. Details: 637-4157.

Buddhist meditation: Join in a free Buddhist mediation session, Jan. 7 and 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Barbara Memorial Room at the San Benito County Free Library, 470 Fifth St. in Hollister. In Buddhism, meditation means “effortlessly remaining in what is.” This state may be brought about by calming and holding the mind, when compassion and wisdom are realized, or by working with our bodies’ energy channels and meditating on light forms of Buddhas. Red Cross open house: The American Red Cross Hollister Office of the American Red Cross Monterey Bay Chapter is planning a kick off on Jan. 7, “Sleeves up, hearts open, all in.” Residents will have a chance to see what’s new in the Hollister office, discover volunteer opportunities and plan activities designed to grow preparedness and resiliency in the community. Skating by the Bay: Celebrate the holidays amidst the scenic coastline at Ice Skating by the Bay’s seasonal ice skating rink located in Custom House Plaza behind Portola Hotel & Spa, at 4 Custom House Plaza, through Jan. 6. The rink is open Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., or Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults or $10 for children 12 and under, with a skate rental fee of $3.
