Panelists answered the following: Do you support the 13-year path to citizenship – for the nation’s 11 million illegal immigrants – included in the Senate immigration bill?
Richard Place: “I believe 13 years to become a citizen is ridiculous. If Medicare runs out of money in 13 years and Social Security is broke shortly after that why would you want to become a citizen?”
Ruth Erickson: “There should be a path to citizenship, but let us not forget all those who came here legally and many who have waited for years to come here!”
Mary Zanger: “Yes, of course I agree. Those that I know have jobs, work hard, pay taxes, go to school, support their communities, donate to charities. and serve in the military. Our economy grows with the contribution of non-citizens. I feel safe living in an agricultural community. Everyone is protective of everyone. Non-citizens do everything citizens do except vote. I suppose the issue battles down to voting rights”
Marty Richman: “The devil will be in the details, and I do not know what those will be. There needs to be a path to citizenship or why bother with the bill; 13 years may be right depending on the situation.”
