Panelists answered the following question: Do you agree with the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Afghanistan in 2014?
Ruth Erickson: “With all the turmoil in the Middle East, perhaps this is not the time to think about pulling out.”
Mary Zanger: “Yes, the sooner we pull out of Afghanistan the safer we will be. We will be safer from the true cause of our budget deficit, which bleeds trillions into war making. We will be safer from exposing ourselves to the flood of new radicals. We can then redirect our resources into reconciliation, generosity, and compassion, which are the true hallmarks of the American people.”
Marty Richman: “Yes, what have we been waiting for? We are years too late, President Karzai and too many Afghani people have shown themselves to be uncommitted and unreliable allies.”
Jim West: “I certainly support withdrawing all our troops…I just don’t know enough to be sure it’s the right thing to do.”
