The inaugural San Benito Olive Festival is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Paicines Ranch. Admission is $20, and tickets are available at sanbenitoolivefestival.com. Tickets may also be purchased in advance at three local businesses: Visions of Christmas in San Juan Bautista, San Benito Bene and Postal Graphics in Hollister. Organizers have said any proceeds would be allocated to local nonprofits. Award-winning olive oils will be sold at the olive festival as well as delicious artisanal foods, wines and chocolates – all locally grown and produced in San Benito County. There will be cooking demonstrations and live music. Celebrity chefs Gene Sakahara, Sam Bozzo, “The Olive Guy” Don Landis and Matt Woolston will make an appearance. More local chefs, including Dorothy McNett and Maurizio Cutrignelli of Morgan Hill, will also be attending the event to share their culinary skills. Vineyards – such as Guerra Vineyards and Groves, Sons-of-Sicily, Pietra Santa, Oils of Paicines, Brigantino Olio de Oliva, and Belle Farms – will be there as well.
Saltshaker Theater’s ‘Polter-Heist’ show
Saltshaker Theater presents mayhem, magic and mystery at the Windhaven Ranch with the “Polter-Heist” dinner theater show. It includes “magical moments” with magician Ken Chsson and a dining experience with chef Jeff Parker. Costumes are optional, while seating is limited. It is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Windhaven Ranch, 547 Mission Vineyard Road in San Juan Bautista. It is presented by the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. Foundation’s health fair
In honor of Binational Health Week, the San Benito Health Foundation is holding a health fair from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at 301 The Alameda, suite K in San Juan Bautista. There will be talks, a Portion Plates Class and free medical screenings. Details: (831) 637-5306
Friends of Mitch Dike Road To Recovery
Friends of Mitch Dike and his girlfriend, Lydia – both of whom were involved in a serious motorcycle accident and were hit by a drunk driver in August 2012 – are hosting a fundraiser from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 19 in the back room at Paine’s Restaurant. According to an announcement from the organizers, they both sustained serious injuries and Mitch received the brunt of it all. Many scars and surgeries later, Mitch is still in need of two more surgeries to help him walk and sit properly. They are inviting residents to honor him as well as support him for a Santa Maria Style BBQ, silent auction, 50/50 raffle bake sale and great entertainment provided by Aaron Avila & Second Wind Band. Fundraiser Dinner Dance
Help support the Jacqueline A. Dilley Medical Fund at a dinner dance set for 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Hollister Elk’s Lodge, 351 Astro Drive. It includes a no-host bar. A table of 10 is $350 or the prime rib dinner is $40 per person. There will be silent and live auctions as well. Tickets are available at Postal Graphics, Visions, Pacific Hair Trends or the Hollister Veterinary Clinic.
