The City of Hollister responded last week to social media reports of counterfeit flyers circulating within city limits.

The flyers, which included the city’s logo, had a breakdown of the city’s lawn parking ordinance and contact information for city code enforcement officers.

The flyers are in violation of the municipal code, which prohibits the circulation of counterfeit flyers. Also, the city does not post literature on vehicles. Hollister does enforce the municipal code that begins: Automobiles, boats, dismounted campers, or other vehicles or equipment, which are not regulated by Section 15.12.020, that are permanently parked or stored on property used or zoned for residential purposes, unless parked or located on a paved driveway or off-street parking space approved and/or installed pursuant to city codes or in an area lawfully screened from view from all adjacent public rights-of-way.

However, code enforcement officers seek to gain compliance by addressing the resident. If no contact can be made, code enforcement mails out a correctable citation after which point the resident has ten days to remove the vehicle.

If there is still no response from the resident or the vehicle is parked incorrectly again, code enforcement issues a non-correctable $250 citation.

“Code enforcement is proactive in enforcing this code which is usually reported by neighbors,” the press release from Hollister Fire Department said. “The unauthorized circulations of false documents are highly discouraged and misrepresent the intention of the Municipal Code Enforcement Division and the City of Hollister. This matter is under investigation.”
